Meet the Coordinator of Assessment and Instruction

Tanin Longway

Tanin Longway has been an educator for the Portsmouth School Department for the last 24 years.  She has served in a few roles at Portsmouth Middle School, ranging from 7th grade English/Language Arts teacher, K-8 Literacy Coach, and now the middle school  Coordinator of Assessment and Instruction for the 2025-2026 school year.  Tanin has also been accepted into the RIDE-approved Principal’s Residency Network for this school year.  She is considered an aspiring principal and will earn her principal certificate at the conclusion of this school year.  

The following tasks will be associated with her role:

  • Work in close proximity with her mentor principal 

  • Analyze all school performance data (achievement/SEL, etc.), which will help with the school improvement process

  • Participate in a Cycles of Improvement Plan 

  • Serve as a member of the MTSS Academic Team 

  • Collaborate with teachers and instructional teams to design and implement tier 2 and tier 3 academic interventions 

  • Coordinate and oversee academic interventions (tier 2 and 3)

  • Contributing member of the building leadership team and the school improvement team 

  • Serve as school test coordinator, managing state and district-wide assessments with fidelity and accuracy 

  • Assist in evaluating and enhancing instructional practices to ensure high quality teaching and learning aligned with district goals/strategic plan  

  • Assist with planning and supervising school events and activities
