The Art curriculum this year fosters creative and critical thinking, supports and encourages student choice, as well as nurtures and promotes social and emotional learning. We will work with 2D and 3D media, both independently and collaboratively.

All of our engaging and socially enriching art lessons are aligned with the National Visual Arts Standards. Two portfolios will be sent home, one mid-year and one at the end of the year.

Our units will emphasize culture this year as we learn about artists from all over the world. Historic and contemporary artists will inform many of our lessons, as well as the elements and principles of art and design.

Students are free to explore their creative wonder in our Art class. The Art class is a special place as it allows and encourages for students to know it is okay to make mistakes, gives the opportunity for students to get out of their comfort zone in a safe space to try new things, practice being innovative, work collaboratively with their peers, and allows students to use their critical thinking skills. These are all skills that they will carry with them throughout their life in many endeavors and in any career that they may fulfill. My goal is that they are always engaged and exploring, as well as nurturing their love for art in hopes that they continue to use it as a creative outlet!
