Maker Space

STEAM Mission
To develop innovative thinkers who work collaboratively through the design process to solve real world problems by drawing from and integrating the multiple disciplines of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) and utilizing 21st century skills.
Makerspace...What is it?
What is a makerspace exactly? A makerspace is a space/place inside the school, designated to foster learning, exploring, sharing and creativity. The core of makerspace is a "maker mindset" -students challenge themselves to create something out of nothing and explore their interests.
The makerspace helps prepare students with critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, art, engineering, and math (STEAM). Students put on creative thinking caps, work collaboratively as a team to solve problems, and develop critical thinking skills.
Melville students in grades K-4 will have access to makerspace materials in the library. During their makerspace rotation, they will learn and explore skills pertaining to teamwork, problem-solving, perseverance, electronics, coding, robotics, building, and more.
