About Our School

Hathaway Elementary School

"Where we play, learn, and grow together!"

Hathaway Elementary is a kindergarten through grade four school located in Portsmouth, RI.  In addition to the academic subjects of Science, Math, Reading, Literature and Social Studies, the students participate in Unified Arts.  These disciplines include Art, Music, Health, Library Media and Physical Education.

We are proud to be a Feinstein Leadership School. Our students, faculty and staff actively participate in campaigns throughout the year to help those in need in our community.

Hathaway School receives financial assistance from Title 1, Part A:  a federal program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (regular) to support the academic achievement of students identified as failing or most at risk of failing to meet state standards and assessments. Title 1 programs provide students with extra instructional support beyond the regular classroom.

Title 1 schools identify students that are most in need of educational assistance and provide them with additional academic support. Students do NOT need to be from low-income families in order to receive Title 1 services.

Title 1 programs are designed to provide services that supplement and support the regular classroom program. Examples of services that may be offered using Title 1 funds include:

Extra instructional time and supports for students;
Specialized instructional methods and teaching materials that supplement the student's regular classroom instruction;
Before the Bell, a program that extends and reinforces the school's regular curriculum.

The Hathaway Parent Teacher Association is very active in our learning community and provides support for field trips, scholarships, enrichment, equipment,  and social functions.  Please join our next meeting to see how you can become involved in the HPTA!
