Summer Work

What an exciting and fun filled year we have had in our Portsmouth Elementary Communities.  While we are sure that you have a wonderful summer planned for your entire family, it is our hope that you would encourage your child to set a few minutes aside each day to exercise their brain by continuing to read and reinforcing their math skills.

Dedicating at least 2 hours per week to reviewing math concepts, along with sustained reading, will prevent your child from losing the skills that he/she has learned throughout the school year. Since all math activities are to serve as a review, students are to complete the calendar for the grade level he/she was assigned to during this school year. Calendars can be found on the elementary school websites.  Students are encouraged to record and share their thinking with family members.

The Portsmouth Free Public Library is once again hosting the Children’s Summer Reading Program.  The theme is “Build a Better World.” Lots of fun activities, story times and special events/guests are planned.  Your child will receive prizes weekly for participating in the program.  Visit the library’s Summer Reading web page to get more information:  http://portsmouthlibrary.org/node/709
Please take advantage of the library’s resources and this wonderful, fun program and keep your children reading!

Please be advised that students will continue to have access to the following computer based programs during the summer as well: ABC Mouse (K), RAZ Kids (K-3), Tumble books (K-3), Starfall (K-3), Dreambox (K-3).  All user names and passwords will remain active until mid-August.

Thanks to all for another amazing school year! Have a great summer and we will see you on August 30th!
