Summer Work (Summer 2019)

Dear Parents,

What an exciting and fun filled year we have had in our Portsmouth Elementary Communities.  While we are sure that you have a wonderful summer planned for your entire family, it is our hope that you would encourage your child to set a few minutes aside each day to exercise their brain by continuing to read and practice math skills. .

In order to promote your child's independent reading over the summer, try out the summer reading choice board!  Check out Scholastic’s Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Challenge. Kids are able to enter their summer reading minutes online, unlock digital rewards as they complete weekly reading challenges; and access book excerpts, videos, and other summer-exclusive content.

If you are looking for a good book to read, check out Scholastic’s book recommendations here:

The Portsmouth Free Public Library is once again hosting the Children’s Summer Reading Program.  The theme is “A Universe of Stories.” Lots of fun activities, story times and special events/guests are planned.  Your child will receive prizes weekly for participating in the program. Visit the library’s Summer Reading web page to get more information:

Please take advantage of the library’s resources and this wonderful, fun program and keep your children reading!

In order to keep those math skills flowing, students should take some time to complete the activities on the math calendars for their incoming grade.  The calendars can be found on the school webpages, as well as an attachment in an email about summer learning.

Please be advised that students will continue to have access to the following computer based programs during the summer as well: RAZ Kids (K-4), Tumblebooks (K-4), and Dreambox(K-4).  All usernames and passwords will remain active through the end of August. Tumbleworks login is already embedded in the link through the Hathaway Library Catalog homepage under “For Students” on the Hathaway Website (it’s at the bottom of the page on right side!).

Thanks to all for another amazing school year! Have a great summer and we will see you on September 3rd!
