Welcome to Hathaway & Melville Music! In our lessons we warmup our voices, practice a musical skill, engage in a musical movement activity, build our teamwork/ensemble skills, develop our musical literacy, improvise answers using our known pitch patterns, and culminate with a song-book. Through this structure, we are always performing, creating, and responding to music as outlined by our new Core Arts Standards. Being able to hear musical elements, articulate what we hear using musical vocabulary, and gaining confidence in ourselves as performers is what musical literacy in our classrooms is about. I hope to inspire the children to continue their musical development at the middle school by joinging the band, singing in the chorus, being a knowledgable music listener, or plant the seeds as life-long appreciators and supporters of music expression.
