Mrs. Donna Valente

Hello.

My name is Donna Valente. This is my sixteenth year teaching in Portsmouth Public Schools. I have taught music classes at Melville, Hathaway, Elmhurst, and at the High School. Classes included exploratory music singing, playing instruments, creating music, and having fun! I also teach guitar levels 1 and 2, piano levels 1 and 2, concert band and co- teach the symphonic band at Portsmouth High School. In the summer of 2016, I participated in an instrumental music workshop at Gordon College that focused on string bow technique as part of my preparation for a new endeavor of conducting the string ensemble at Portsmouth High School. This ensemble is in its third year of existence and I am excited to work with the students and see this program continue to grow and flourish in the Portsmouth Schools.

Outside of the school day, I teach beginner guitar as part of an enrichment program at Hathaway School, lead the Portsmouth High School's Pep Band at the Unified Basketball Games, an instrumental teacher for the St. Anthony's Portuguese American Band of Fall River, and I have also been a member and musician for St. Anthony's Band for the past 34 years. I tutor and support my son in his music studies playing "Mom's golden trumpet," a choice he made when he was in fourth grade. Besides music and family being a big part of my life, I am an avid fan for the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and of course my alma mater the Portsmouth Patriots!
