I am happy to welcome you to my kindergarten classroom and share a little bit about myself with you! I am a native Aquidneck Islander, and grew up in Middletown. I have been living in my Little Compton home for over 20 years where I raised my son Lars and daughter Michelle. I have been teaching young children in Portsmouth for 22 years, beginning as a kindergarten teacher at the previous Elmhust School, teaching alll grade levels for 2 years at the 1 room schoolhouse on Prudence Island, teaching pre-1 and 1st grade for 9 years at Melville School, and am now, very happily in my 10th year as a kindergarten teacher here at Hathaway School. Prior to teaching in Portsmouth I taught full-day kindergarten at the YMCA's early childhood program in Middletown.
Teaching 5 and 6 year old children is the joy and passion of my life! I am continually grateful for the opportunity to encourage and foster the love of learning for young children. Building a strong sense of self-esteem for each child is a top priority for me. Providing for the needs of the whole child - their emotional, social, physical, cognitive and creative well-being is so very important to me. I believe that the early childhood years are a unique cornerstone for a child's growth and development. I love the honor of introducing children and their parents into the world of school learning.
