Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Monica Van Horn
Hello! I have served as an academic interventionist at Hathaway School since 2013. Before that, I taught in North Carolina, Indiana, and Georgia. I hold a Masters Degree in Reading from the University of Rhode Island as well as a Masters in Education and B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. (Go Irish!)
I completed my Orton Gillingham Teacher Certification (and IMSLEC credentials) through 146 hours of study and practice at the Children's Dyslexia Center of RI. I am also a certified teacher in the Addvantage math intervention program. I have taught graduate and undergraduate courses through the URI Education Department and was a Clinical Faculty member of Notre Dame's A.C.E. program.
I am a member of the Hathaway School Leadership Team and currently serving as the school ISP to support the teacher evaluation process. I am a regular presenter at the district technology PD day.
My favorite things (besides teaching) are dancing with my dance troup, cooking healthy foods, calming down with yoga, and visiting with my family and friends.
