Dr. Thomas Kenworthy

Dr. Thomas Kenworthy has been the Assistant Superintendent for the Portsmouth Public Schools since 2014. Prior to his appointment in Portsmouth, Dr. Kenworthy served as principal of North Kingstown High School. He previously worked as a middle school principal in the Cumberland School District and served as a leadership fellow at the Rhode Island Department of Education. He began his career in education as a social studies teacher and athletic coach at La Salle Academy and North Kingstown High School.

Dr. Kenworthy earned a B.A. in secondary education/social studies from Rhode Island College, a M.Ed. in school administration from Providence College, and a C.A.G.S. and Ed.D. in educational leadership from Johnson & Wales University. He completed an enlisted term in the United States Marine Corps Reserve while pursuing his undergraduate studies.

While in Portsmouth Dr. Kenworthy has worked to help the district maintain its reputation among the top school districts in RI. He has taken the lead in promoting blended learning and 1:1 implementation to ensure students are exposed to a robust 21st-century curriculum, expanding STEAM opportunities for students across all grade levels, and enhancing social and emotional supports for students through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support program. 

He and his wife are the proud parents of three children. Away from work he enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and staying active.
