Dr. Lisa Colwell
Dr. Lisa Colwell is the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in the Portsmouth School Department. Her main responsibilities include administration and supervision of student services that supplement and support the instructional program for students, including Special Education, Section 504, Homebound, and Hospitalized instruction. She is also the District's Foster Care Point-of-Contact. Prior to her appointment in Portsmouth, Dr. Colwell served as the Director of Special Services in the Cumberland School Department for ten years. She began her career in education as a special educator at the secondary level and has held teacher and/or teacher leader positions in the Lincoln, North Attleboro and Cranston School Departments.
Dr. Colwell earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in elementary education and elementary/secondary special education from Rhode Island College, a Masters of Education (M.Ed.) in school leadership from Rhode Island College, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) and a Doctorate degree (Ed.D) in Educational Leadership from Johnson & Wales University. She has been an adjunct professor at both Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island and is currently an adjunct professor in the graduate program at Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska.
Lisa lives with her husband Keith, who is a technology educator and an instructional technology coach.
